IFS-HRES Available in the Dataset and Forecast APIs

The ECMWF high-resolution model IFS-HRES is now available in the Dataset API and, as a raw forecast package, in the Forecast API. A rapid-update variant is available in the Dataset API.

ECMWF opened IFS-HRES as public data on 1 October 2025 and meteoblue enabled it the same day. The model runs at roughly 9 km resolution (0.1°) with near-global coverage, 3-hourly time steps and a 144-hour forecast horizon, updated four times a day.

How to request it

In the Forecast API, IFS-HRES is available through the raw forecast package endpoint as ifshres-5min, -10min, -15min, -20min, -30min and -1h. It is not selectable through the domain parameter, which covers a different set of models. Raw forecast packages are priced at 96000 credits, so check the cost against your plan before building on them.

The rapid-update variant

IFS-HRES-RR is stored as a separate domain at the same resolution, with hourly time steps, refreshed every 6 hours, and a shorter 72-hour forecast horizon. It fits short-range use cases where update frequency matters more than forecast length. The rapid-update variant is not among the raw forecast packages in the Forecast API.

Known data issues

Two variables have logged data-quality issues in IFS-HRES: dewpoint since August 2024, and CAPE since January 2025. Check current status before relying on either for critical decisions. Total precipitation is not available as a variable for IFS-HRES at all currently. IFS-HRES-RR has no known issues logged.
