Urban PET Map Added to Urban Maps
meteoblue has added the Urban PET Map to Urban Maps, showing physiological equivalent temperature rather than air temperature alone.
Physiological equivalent temperature combines air temperature, radiation, humidity and wind into a single value on a temperature scale. It describes what a person in that location actually experiences.
Why air temperature is not enough
Two places at the same air temperature are not equally uncomfortable if one is shaded and ventilated and the other sits in full sun between two walls. For heat planning, the PET layer corresponds more closely to the burden cities are trying to reduce than a thermometer reading does.
